Kelley Burnett

A note from Amanda:

Hello! This is the first of many bi-monthly conversations with I+W clients who inspire, teach, and generally bring us joy.

I’ve started this project as a way to explore and share who our clients are. I genuinely think that we have managed to appeal to some really fascinating and inspiring people. It’s part of what makes this work so enjoyable for us, and I want to share that with all of you too. Thanks for reading, hanging out, and sharing your time with us.

“I feel like I'm always looking for the simplest or most elemental version of a thing.”

The bio of Kelley’s Instagram says she makes pottery in Los Angeles, but she also make incredibly unique and pretty jewelry. She has excellent taste in food and wine and is overall an absolute delight to have around. I chatted with Kelley about what her weekends look like, how she approaches her life and work, and what her favorite restaurants are.

What service do you get at I+W?

Lash lift + brow tint has been my favorite and most booked services recently. It feels very natural and elevated in a casual way for every day. Low maintenance, feels like it suits me well. It feels nice to have a little subtle extra, and no need for make up.

How would you describe yourself/your work?

I feel like I'm always looking for the simplest or most elemental version of a thing - be it what I'm wearing, eating, drinking, how I'm approaching my job; most importantly what I'm making personally or working on - but also trying to evaluate and incorporate all the beauty, information, and newness of each day and situation.

Zodiac, if you're into that?

Virgo. Big time. Virgo

What's your morning routine?

Coffee, walk dog up and around some hills, stretch, shower, and off to work checking in on the LA studios usually. I wish I was better about meditating or slow mornings, but this routine seems to work for now. Starting the day with a hilly walk, even if short, is better than any amount of caffeine for me.

What's your drink of choice?

Early morning, hot black coffee, even on hot days. Then iced americano. Buckwheat tea, chilled. Evening I've been into a natty chenin blanc (Marula!).

It's Friday night, what are you doing?

Being so boring, Friday nights are my favorite to order in and work late in my studio. Which is my side room at home, basically a closet but I'm so grateful to have the space and when I get to work in it, it feels good.

Where are you eating lately?

Mostly at home at my kitchen counter, wine and tinned fish; I just had the most memorable and simple meal at Cellar Door Provisions in Chicago. In LA, I'm waiting for Bub and Grandma's to open in Glassel Park.

How do you recharge?

Making pottery, making jewelry, focusing on getting good sleep, long long walks. Even though it's work, I feel the most recharged when I have work in all stages, like the conversation is ongoing, but at a good resting place to think.
